5 Mind-Blowing Examples of AI Portraits – The Artistic Revolution is Here!

AI portraits

With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), we find ourselves witnessing an exciting fusion between technology and artistry. One such fascinating development is the advent of AI portraits, where machines possess the ability to create stunning and lifelike paintings and photographs.

In this blog post, we will explore the world of AI portraits, delving into the process, implications, and awe-inspiring results that AI art is bringing to the world. Let’s get into it!

What are AI portraits?

Step aside Picasso! AI portraits involve the use of AI portrait generators to create original works of art.

By analyzing vast datasets of existing portraits, AI art generators are trained to understand the nuances of human features, emotions, and artistic styles. This amalgamation of cutting-edge technology and artistic vision has given rise to a new form of expression that is both captivating and thought-provoking.

How do AI portrait generators work?

The process of creating an AI portrait generator typically begins with feeding the algorithm a dataset of carefully curated images.

These images encompass a wide range of styles, from classical paintings to modern photographs, enabling the AI to learn and mimic the techniques and nuances of human artists. The algorithm then analyzes and deconstructs these images, extracting key features such as facial structures, colors, textures, and brush strokes.

Once the training phase is complete, the AI model gains the ability to generate entirely new portraits based on the knowledge it has acquired.

Artists or users can provide input parameters such as mood, style, and composition, allowing the AI to produce a personalized and unique portrait that reflects the desired aesthetic.

What’s up with the AI portrait trend?

Have you noticed there’s a viral AI portrait trend taking over Instagram? There’s an AI app called Lensa, which allows users to create their very own AI selfies!

I Tested My Human Writing Against 5 AI Detectors – My Scores Were Eye-Opening!

AI detector

It’s no secret that AI text generators like ChatGPT have become the talk of the town lately. People are jumping on board the AI writing train, and in response companies are hustling to develop AI detector tools.

These tools claim they can figure out whether a piece of text was penned by a human or churned out by an AI algorithm. But hey, before we jump to conclusions, let’s ask ourselves: How accurate are these detectors, really?

It turns out that OpenAI recently removed their AI text classifier because it wasn’t quite hitting the mark when it came to accuracy. So, I couldn’t help but wonder: Could other AI detectors be missing the mark too? To find out, I decided to put them to the test myself.

To put these AI tools through their paces, I decided to use an old piece of writing that I wrote myself, and then had ChatGPT whip up another piece entirely from scratch. It was time to pit them against each other and see what these detectors are made of.

So, keep reading to find out whether these tools can really tell the difference between human-written and AI-generated text.

What is an AI detector?

Before we jump into the tools, what is an AI detector anyway?

An AI detector is a software or system that utilizes machine learning algorithms. Its primary purpose is to automatically detect and classify content that has been generated by artificial intelligence.

These specialized detectors are recent developments that have been made to address the increasing prevalence of AI-generators, which can range from essays to images, videos, or even music. By leveraging machine learning techniques, the AI detector analyzes various attributes, patterns, and markers specific to AI-generated content.

5 AI detector tools put to the test

Here are the AI detectors I’ve tested so far in 2023.

1. Originality.AI

First up on our list is originality.ai. This AI detector is probably the most popular tool at the moment, and certainly I’ve seen ads everywhere for it. Looking on their website, that claim that they have 99% AI content detection accuracy.

In order to test Originality.ai, I have to sign up for an account and hand over my credit card details. I’m then given 50 credits to use for free. It’s worth noting that this detector can only scan content written in English at this stage.

I start by copy and pasting a 500 word article I wrote a few years ago. Originality.ai gives me a score of 96% human generated, and 4% AI generated. Not awful, but not entirely accurate either as the article was 100% human generated.

Next I try a ChatGPT article of around the same length. Originality.ai correctly identifies that the writing was 100% AI written. So all in all, this tool is pretty accurate in my opinion!

originality.ai Features

  1. Comprehensive NLP Model Support: The AI content detector and plagiarism checker tool accommodate a wide range of NLP models, ensuring compatibility and effectiveness across various frameworks.
  2. Team Collaboration: The tool allows multiple team members to collaborate, enabling seamless sharing of insights and efficient content analysis.

2. Writer AI Content Detector

Moving on to the Writer AI Content Detector. Immediately, I like how this platform allows you to just copy and paste your text right away. No mucking around with sign-up forms or handing over credit card details!

This time, I test the AI content first. As I copy and paste my text in, I realise that 500 words is way over the character limit. That’s a bugger. I have to chop the text right down to 2 paragraphs or approximately 150 words. Not efficient if there’s a lot of text you want to check. Nevertheless, let’s see how the detector does. I hit analyse and…100% human generated! Wowsers. So not accurate at all.

Let’s see how it does with my human generated content. Again, I’m awarded a score of 100%, which is correct. However seeing as I also got 100% for AI content, I probably wouldn’t be inclined to trust this particular tool.

This personalized training helps align the AI-generated content with the desired tone, style, and voice, providing tailored assistance in content creation.

3. Winston AI

ai detectors

Another popular AI detector is Winston. Once again, I have to create a free account in order to use the tool, though I appreciate that I don’t need to hand over any credit card details at this stage. I’m given a number of credits to use, more than enough for the purpose of this article.

Winston also automatically gives you a free 7 day trial, after which you’ll need to upgrade in order to keep using the tool, even if you still have free credits left. Plans start from $12/month which will allow you to scan 80,000 words each month for both AI and plagiarism checking.

This time I start with my human generated content. I like that I can test the full 500 word article this time. The score they give me is 75% human generated, while 25% is likely AI. Interesting. Looking at the results, they’ve highlighted the sections they believe to be likely generated by AI, I don’t agree with the assessment, but there you go.

Next, onto the AI generated content. Winston accurately detects that the text was written by AI, giving me a measly score of 1% human generated. Overall, I don’t think Winston is as accurate as it claims to be, and Originality seems a more capable tool at this stage.

Winston Features

  1. ChatGPT Compatibility: The tool seamlessly works with ChatGPT, including the latest GPT-4 model, enabling accurate detection of AI-generated text from these advanced language models.
  2. Sentence Highlighting: Winston AI’s advanced capabilities include the ability to highlight sentences that are likely to have been generated by AI. This feature provides users with a clear visual representation of AI-generated content within their text.

  5. Free Readability Score: Winston AI goes beyond AI detection and plagiarism checks by providing users with a free readability score. This feature assesses the readability and comprehension level of the text, offering valuable insights for content improvement.

4. Copyleaks

ai content detector tools

Alrighty, let’s check out Copyleaks’ AI content detector next. Again, I don’t need to sign up which I appreciate. I can simply copy and paste my text straight into the tool.

I start with my human generated content. This time I’m not given a score. Instead, Copyleaks simply tells me that my text is human generated text. While this is accurate, I kinda liked seeing what my score was and which sentences the detector thought might be AI generated. Oh well, never mind.

Let’s see how the AI generated text does. This time, I see the bulk of my article highlighted in red. The detector has accurately detected that my text was machine generated. Though interestingly it thinks my first paragraph is at least 40% human.

Copyleaks Features

  1. AI-Powered Features: Copyleaks harnesses the power of AI to deliver its functionality, ensuring accurate and efficient detection capabilities.

  7. LMS Integration: Copyleaks facilitates integration with Learning Management Systems (LMS), allowing educational institutions and e-learning platforms to seamlessly incorporate content detection capabilities into their systems.

5. Content at Scale

The final tool I’m testing today is Content at Scale. This free AI detector claims to be 85% accurate (a little more modest than other AI detectors mentioned in this article).

This time I start with my AI article. The detector gives me a score of 31% human written. Not an awful assessment, but not entirely accurate either. Unfortunately none of the sentences are highlighted so I can’t tell which parts are assumed to be AI and which parts could be human.

Next I plug in my human generated article. I receive a perfect 100% score! The detector accurately confirms that the text was written by flesh and bones. Excellent.

Content at Scale Features

  1. On-Demand API Access: The API is readily available upon request, allowing users to integrate the software seamlessly into their existing systems and workflows.
  2. Extensive Language Support: The software provides support for multiple languages, enabling users to analyze text in various linguistic contexts.

I’m a Professional Copywriter and Editor. Is AI Going to Replace Me?

Last year I had a content writing gig with a marketing agency. It was my job to churn out 15-20 articles each month for the agency’s clients.

This agency relationship made up around 30% of my monthly income. I charged a fixed price per article, so no matter how long it took me to create, I was still paid the same amount.

December 2022 rolls around and I receive a message from the agency, ‘Hey have you heard of this thing called ChatGPT?’

I hadn’t.

‘Oh is it one of those AI writing things?’ I replied. ‘Yes!’ he said, ‘It’s amazing! I want to switch you to an hourly rate. With this you’ll be able to pump out 10 articles an hour!’

Ha, I thought to myself. Unlikely.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of anything that makes life quicker and easier – especially when it comes to work.

But I’d already tried platforms like Jasper and Copy.AI. And to be honest, I thought they were rubbish.

There was no way I could send what the AI produced to my clients.

Incorrect information, gibberish sentences, absolutely no personality in the tone…I figured AI wasn’t anything to be worried about for the foreseeable future.

Or so I thought.

‘Look you really need to try it…I’m telling you it’s amazing,’ the agency pressed.

‘Alright I’ll give it a go,’ I replied.

Well, shit

After creating a free account, I gave the machine it’s first prompt. Write 500 words on marketing strategies for e-commerce brands.

Damn, I thought to myself as I watched ChatGPT create well-articulated sentences in a matter of seconds.

It was unsettling, to say the least.

I went back to my client. ‘Okay, you’ve got me here, this platform is pretty dang good.’

What followed was best described as a mini-existential crisis. I couldn’t sleep. All I could think about was whether this was going to spell the end of my career as a copywriter.

I also happened to be in the middle of writing my first book, a step-by-step business guide for aspiring copywriters.

Suddenly I wasn’t sure of the project at all. Was everything I had written now redundant? Am I giving out bad advice by publishing this? Should I cancel this project all together?

I decided to put it on pause while I figured out how much of an impact AI was going to have on my business.

Seven months in – how has ChatGPT affected my copywriting business?

While I have parted ways with the client mentioned earlier in this article (for non-AI related reasons), I won’t sugarcoat things and say I haven’t lost work because of ChatGPT.

The fact is, I have.

And while no-one has openly come out and said ‘Hey Rach, thanks for your service but we’re going with the machine…’ I’m 97% certain that is the case. These were long-term clients that were always very happy with my work.

Thankfully, those losses haven’t had much of an impact on my cash flow. Because, while some clients have stopped giving me work, others have started giving me double.

But I know that’s not the case for other copywriters. I’ve seen many voices online saying how quiet the market is right now. How they’re struggling to find work. Some are wondering if they should just throw in the towel and pivot into something else.

Because this tech is still so new, my feeling is that many businesses are having a crack with tools like ChatGPT right now. I mean what business doesn’t want to have bigger profit margins?

We’re in a massive exploration phase right now. Everything is up in the air, and the dust is yet to settle.

I don’t have a crystal ball, but my feeling is that things will pick up again for copywriters. As business owners begin to realise that what ChatGPT is producing sounds and looks like everyone else, people are going to get hungry for real voices again.

It’s not all doom and gloom

You know how once you’ve seen something, you can’t unsee it?

That’s what’s happening with AI. There’s no use sticking your head in the sand and pretending it’s not here to stay.

But I believe AI tools like ChatGPT are going to become our collaborators – not our replacements.

We can now produce high-quality work in half the time we used to. We no longer have to spend hours looking for credible sources of information for educational style content.

So if you’re a copywriter and you haven’t embraced AI yet, now’s the time to do so. Hitch yourself to the bandwagon or get left behind. And I don’t mean that glibly.

Our role is shifting – instead of starting with a blank page every day, we’re going to be editing what AI produces. We still need to understand the target market of our clients, their pain points and desires, we still need to know what elements should go into certain pieces of copy.

We need to think of programs like ChatGPT as our junior copywriters. We need to guide it, tell it where it’s going wrong, where it’s missing the mark.

The good news is, your average client doesn’t know the fundamentals of copywriting, or how to generate good results with AI. Our services will still be required.

A new era is beginning

As we begin to navigate the sea of change brought on by AI, it’s time to stop looking at it with fear and instead start using it as tool to enhance our creative capabilities.

Our role as writer is unlikely to ever become obsolete, but it certainly will be redefined.

Our understanding of the nuances of language, the intricacies of human psychology, and the art of crafting compelling narratives remains irreplaceable.

Instead of beginning with a blank canvas, we now step into the role of editors, guiding AI to better align with the unique voice and vision of our clients.

The Secrets Behind Viral Content Exposed

One of the first viral content pieces that caught the public’s attention in the digital and social media era was a video created on YouTube in 2010, “Charlie Bit My Finger”, which received 6.9 million views. But that was nothing by today’s standards.

One of the most recent viral (and strange) sensations on YouTube is MrBeast. In 2023 he has 169 million subscribers and 44 billion views from a YouTube video that took him 40 hours to create with the title “I counted to 100,000”.

Why viral content matters

Getting traffic and attention online can create wealth, attention and fame. Fast.

MrBeast at the age of 24 has an estimated net worth of over $100 million. He has perfected the art of trialing and testing different content to see what goes viral on Youtube. His first breakthrough video was a mind numbing 24 hour video!

What is interesting about his story is the traffic tactic that he used to break through and get the attention that has made him one of the most famous YouTubers on the planet!

According to Wikipedia “In January 2017, Donaldson published an almost day-long video of himself counting to 100,000, which became his breakthrough viral video. The ordeal took him 40 hours, with some parts sped up to “keep it under 24 hours.”

My first reaction to that is “WTF!!” But maybe I don’t have the spare time that some people have to watch YouTube and consume social media.

Since then he has continued to experiment and test different creative ways of cracking the viral content code that works for him. These include expensive stunts, challenges and donations.

But you will need to apply the formula of tenacity, passion and persistence.

What is a viral headline?

Simply: It’s the headline that makes a piece of content stand out, get shared and go viral (or not). And that can be an article, a video or an image.

Creating headlines (and content) that goes viral is more art than science. There are copywriting tactics and principles but there’s no magic bullet!

How do you write a viral headline?

There are some basic templates for writing a viral  headline that work, and here are a few to get you started:

A. Template 1: “X [Benefit] You Won’t Believe [Unique Twist/Revelation]”

B. Template 2: “The Ultimate Guide to [Topic]: [Number] Proven [Benefits/Strategies]”

C. Template 3: “Are You [Desirable Outcome]? [Surprising Solution] Inside!”

D. Template 4: “[Number] [Benefit] for [Specific Audience]: The Complete [Guide/Tips]”

E. Template 5: “[Controversial Statement]: Why It’s [True/False]”

Going deeper

Going viral became an obsession for many of the original content creators and founders. Content was created to chase clicks and views. Often it was controversial.

Sometimes content creators attacked famous personalities or used private sex tapes. One outcome of this was the bankrupting of Gawker Media.

“Gawker Media went bankrupt in 2016 after a $140 million legal judgment against it in an invasion-of-privacy case brought by the former wrestler Hulk Hogan. Gawker.com had published a black-and-white sex tape of Mr. Hogan, whose real name is Terry G. Bollea; a Florida jury awarded damages to the wrestler after a two-week trial” – New York Times.

The traffic chasing media companies played at the edge of the law and sometimes they crossed it and paid the price.

The rapid rise of social media and the smartphone (its traffic boosting sidekick) was the magic that allowed everyone to read, create and publish content from anywhere.

The key elements for creating viral content

In the dynamic and fast-paced realm of the internet, the pursuit of viral content creation has become an obsession. Seeking attention is addictive.

But there is no singular formula for virality. Instead, it is a fascinating blend of art and science, where creativity meets data, and innovation meets audience needs.

As content creators, marketers, and digital enthusiasts, we must embrace experimentation and continuous learning. The road to virality is often paved with both successes and failures, and each experience presents an opportunity to refine our approach and better connect with our audiences.

Common traits of viral content

Viral content isn’t just a matter of luck; it follows a pattern that resonates with human psychology. Among the common traits shared by viral content are:

  • Emotional appeal
  • Unexpected twists
  • High-quality visuals
  • Relevance
  • Storytelling prowess
  • Humour, inspiration and empathy

When these elements come together in harmony, they create a powerful concoction that compels people to hit that “share” button.

Emotional appeal and relatability

At the heart of every piece of viral content lies the ability to evoke emotions and connect with its audience on a personal level. Whether it’s joy, nostalgia, or empathy, content that tugs at heartstrings or sparks a strong reaction is more likely to be shared.

People want to feel a connection with what they see and read, and emotional content provides that bridge between creator and viewer.

Unexpected twists or surprises

Human beings are wired to seek novelty and the unexpected. Viral content often thrives on surprising its audience, whether through plot twists in a video, a clever punchline in a meme, or an unforeseen turn of events in a story.

When content deviates from the predictable, it creates an element of intrigue that makes people eager to share the surprise with others.

High-quality and visually appealing media

In an era where attention spans are shrinking, high-quality and visually stimulating content is key to capturing an audience. Striking images, professional video production, and engaging graphics draw viewers in and hold their attention.

Investing time and effort in the visual presentation of content pays dividends when it comes to its potential to go viral.

Relevance and timeliness

Viral content often taps into current events, trends, or issues that are of particular interest to a broad audience. Staying relevant and timely allows content creators to ride the wave of existing discussions and conversations.

Content that addresses burning questions or aligns with what is currently happening in the world has a higher chance of being shared and discussed.

The role of storytelling in viral content

Storytelling is an age-old art that continues to wield immense power in the digital age. The best viral content weaves narratives that captivate the audience, guiding them on a journey of emotions and experiences.

Stories are memorable, shareable, and create a lasting impact on the minds of the audience. Whether it’s a heartwarming tale of triumph or a suspenseful adventure, storytelling is the backbone of viral content.

Leveraging humor, inspiration, and empathy for viral success

Humor is a universal language that knows no borders. Clever jokes, witty one-liners, and amusing situations bring joy and laughter, making content highly shareable. On the other hand, inspirational content uplifts and motivates viewers, encouraging them to aspire and reach for their dreams.

Empathetic content, which addresses the struggles and challenges of the audience, fosters a sense of belonging and solidarity, encouraging individuals to share their experiences with others.

The history of viral content

In his book “Traffic”, Ben Smith goes behind the scenes of what were the most viral content platforms in the last 10-15 years.

These include Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, and Gawker Media. The book is an important insight into the obsession of chasing attention online with viral content at any cost.

But there were quite a few others. So here is a quick overview of the history of viral content that was driven by the art of viral Headlines and an addiction for attention.

Brief history

The history of viral content can be traced back to the early days of the internet, but it gained significant momentum with the rise of social media platforms. Here’s a brief overview of the history of viral content and some websites that capitalized on the rise of social media:

Early Internet Virality (1990’s-2000’s)

In the early days of the internet, viral content primarily spread through email forwarding and instant messaging. Memes, funny videos, and chain emails were some of the earliest forms of content that went viral.

Emergence of Social Media (mid-2000s)

Social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter began gaining popularity in the mid-2000s. These platforms provided new ways for content to reach a broader audience through sharing and engagement.

Facebook (founded in 2004)

Facebook’s news feed and sharing capabilities turned it into a powerful platform for viral content. Memes, viral challenges, and emotional stories found massive success on Facebook, reaching millions of users within a short time.

YouTube (founded in 2005)

YouTube played a pivotal role in the spread of viral videos. Its ease of sharing and embedding allowed videos to reach a global audience rapidly. Memorable videos like “Charlie Bit My Finger” and “Evolution of Dance” became early viral sensations on the platform.

Twitter (founded in 2006)

Twitter’s fast-paced nature and retweeting mechanism made it conducive to the spread of viral content, especially breaking news and real-time events.

Reddit (founded in 2005)

Reddit’s community-driven approach contributed to the spread of viral content. Its “subreddits” allowed niche topics to gain traction, and interesting content often reached the front page.

BuzzFeed (founded in 2006)

BuzzFeed mastered the art of creating shareable content. Its listicles, quizzes, and entertaining articles consistently went viral, attracting millions of visitors and reshaping digital media.

Instagram (launched in 2010)

Instagram’s visual nature and stories feature enabled the quick dissemination of viral images, videos, and trends.

Upworthy (founded in 2012)

Upworthy focused on producing emotionally impactful content. Its curated stories with powerful headlines and social justice themes went viral, prompting widespread sharing and engagement.

TikTok (launched in 2016)

TikTok’s short-form video format and algorithm-driven content discovery led to the rapid rise of viral challenges, dances, and comedic clips shared by users globally.

These are just a few examples of websites that capitalized on the rise of social media to facilitate the spread of viral content. The internet’s interconnectedness and the ease of sharing on social platforms have transformed the way content becomes viral, turning ordinary individuals into online sensations overnight.

What is the dollar value of going viral?

How do you put a price on going viral?

The Holy Grail of media companies especially after the rise of its biggest enabler and amplifier was to get a ton of traffic for free from viral headlines and viral types of content.

So as a rough guide and metric here are the reported capital values of the companies and platforms that supercharged virality.

Huffington Post: In 2011, AOL acquired The Huffington Post for $315 million. This was the first significant sale of what really was a “super blog”

Buzzfeed: In 2021, when it floated on the stock exchange it briefly was valued at $1.5 billion. However, as the social media algorithm’s have made it harder to go viral in 2023 it is valued at around $86 million according to CNBC.com.

Gawker: In 2016, after filing for bankruptcy, Gawker was sold for $135 million to Univision Communications, which later shut down Gawker.com.

Reddit: In February 2021, Reddit was valued at $6 billion after a successful funding round.

TikTok: Tik Tok is currently valued around $80 billion in 2023

The two pillars (and platforms) required to go viral

Essentially, there are two elements required to make content go viral. This has been the formula right from the start.

  • The Platforms – Social media and YouTube. This is your distribution. Before social media “viral” referred to a disease more so than a piece of content.
  • The Content Producers – The media companies and often a mass media star (or influencer) with 10s of millions of followers. The content needs to have a bit of luck mixed with the science of applied human psychology.

The formula today is still the same as a decade ago but the platforms have changed.

In 2013 the big-player platforms were Twitter and Facebook. But in 2023 interest has shifted to Instagram and TikTok.

A 3 step viral content strategy worth testing

One cool strategy that will give you the best chance of “going viral” is this simple 3 step process by Rand Fishkin. He outlines it further in his post – “Hook, Line, and Sinker: A Model for Crafting Successful, Viral Content”

Viral content framework summary

  1. The Hook – The first thing you need to do is get attention. Often you can achieve that with a headlines that offers a big promise or maybe something controversial.
  2. Line – Deliver on the promise the headline provided in your piece of content. It should trigger an emotional response that provides a memorable association.
  3. Sinker – Make your content sticky and shareable.

Wrapping it up

Creating viral content is an art form that combines creativity, psychology, and strategic thinking. By incorporating emotional appeal, surprise elements, visual appeal, relevance, and masterful storytelling, content creators can enhance the likelihood of their creations going viral.

Also leveraging humor, inspiration, and empathy ensures a deep connection with the audience, forging an enduring relationship that extends beyond a mere share.

However, it is essential to remember that virality isn’t guaranteed. The digital landscape is unpredictable, and what goes viral today may not do so tomorrow.

Nevertheless, by embracing these key elements and consistently striving to produce engaging and shareable content, creators can increase their chances of leaving an indelible mark on the vast canvas of the internet.
